POLWEL initially was known as Kinloss Retail Shop.
A Police Welfare Shop was set up in 1980 to ensure that essential household products and appliances could be purchased on credit at low interest rates. The shop was named "Kinloss Retail Shop".
The ventured prospered from 1984 to 1991. On 16th March 1992 Kinloss Co-operative Society Limited was registered.
Force Orders supplement No 35/93 dated 31st August 1993, Sub No. 664 defined the office bearers with the Commissioner of Police as President of Kinloss Co-op Society. It was also specified in the Constitution that all PCWF members are members of Kinloss Co-op Society with the share subscription of $ 10 each, paid out from Police Central Welfare Fund.
In 1995, the name Kinloss Co-op Society Limited was changed to POLWEL Co-operative Society Limited. |
